Privacy policy

Tucktale is made by The Open Apps, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Tucktale plugin in ChatGPT and the website tucktale.ambientapp.ai, including the private listening pages, podcast feeds and audio files it serves. It explains what we collect, why, who receives it, how long we keep it and how to delete it.

The short version

  • Tucktale is used by parents and caregivers. Children only listen; they don't use ChatGPT or Tucktale, and we never ask for a child's name, age, school or photo.
  • We keep your bedtime story series (the characters, setting and settings you chose), its episodes and their narration audio, so the story can continue night after night.
  • Narration is made on our own server with an open text-to-speech model. No third-party voice service receives your stories.
  • You can delete a series at any time ("delete my Tucktale series" in ChatGPT); it is deleted at once, with every episode and recording.
  • We don't show ads, sell data, send marketing email, or use analytics or advertising cookies.

What we collect

What Where it comes from Why we need it
Series settings: the title, the main characters (a name and what they are, such as "Biscuit, a stuffed rabbit"), the setting, the values, the listener's age band (for example "ages 5-6", never a birth date), the episode length, the narration voice, episodes per season and things to keep out of the stories You, through ChatGPT To write each episode to your wishes and keep the series consistent
Episodes: each episode's title, text, a short summary, the facts it established and its hook for next time ChatGPT writes them at your request To keep the story so far, show and narrate each episode, and lay out the season book
Narration audio (MP3) of each episode, and season book files (PDF) Made on our server from the episodes So you can play and keep them
A scrambled (hashed) form of the anonymous user ID that ChatGPT sends ChatGPT So your series are shown only to you. We never receive your name, email address or chat history
If you connect Yoto: the ID of the one playlist Tucktale creates in your Yoto library Yoto So we know the series has a Yoto playlist. We don't keep your Yoto login or read your library
Technical logs: the time, the page or tool used, response codes, errors, approximate country, language and app type ChatGPT reports, the app name a podcast app or player sends, and scrambled forms of the user, conversation and workspace IDs ChatGPT sends Your browser, podcast app, Yoto player or ChatGPT To keep the service running and secure and to find problems. Logs never contain story text, titles, character names, listening links or IP addresses
Support messages: your email address and message You To answer you

We use your IP address only for a moment, to limit how many requests one device can make. It is scrambled with a key that changes whenever our server restarts, kept in memory for one minute and never written down.

Please don't put personal details in a series. Tucktale refuses email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses and links in stories and settings, and asks ChatGPT to use made-up names instead of real children's names. If personal details reach a series anyway, delete the series or write to us.

About ChatGPT. You use Tucktale from ChatGPT, where OpenAI handles the conversation under OpenAI's privacy policy. ChatGPT writes the episodes from the brief Tucktale gives it.

How we use it

  • To keep your series and its memory, check each episode against the bedtime rules, narrate it, and serve it on your private listening page, podcast feed and (if you connect it) Yoto card.
  • To lay out a season as a book when you ask for it.
  • To keep the service secure and working, and to answer support requests.

We don't use any of it for advertising, profiling or training AI models.

Who receives it

Recipient What they receive Why
OpenAI Your series settings, a recap of earlier episodes (titles, summaries and facts), the episode titles and, inside the card in ChatGPT, the newest episode's text and its audio link So ChatGPT can write and show the next episode
Anyone you share your listening link or podcast feed with The series' episodes, their text and audio The link is private and long; it works for whoever has it. Ask ChatGPT for a new link to stop an old one
Yoto (only if you connect it) The series title and the address of its "tonight" audio To create the playlist your card plays. Your Yoto player then fetches the audio from us each time it plays
Hetzner Online GmbH Our servers, database and files Hosting

We may disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.

How long we keep it

Data How long
A series, its episodes, audio and book files Until you delete the series, or 12 months after its last activity, whichever comes first
A Yoto login in progress 10 minutes; the login itself is used once and never stored
Technical logs 30 days
Support emails 12 months

Deleting. Ask ChatGPT to "delete my Tucktale series"; the series and everything in it is deleted at once and its listening link and feed stop working. A Yoto playlist made from it stops playing; you can remove it in the Yoto app. You can also ask us to delete your data at support@theopenapps.com.

Children

Tucktale is a tool for parents and caregivers and is not directed at children. Children don't use ChatGPT or Tucktale; they listen to stories a grown-up set up. We don't knowingly collect personal data about children: the series holds a character's name (usually a toy's) and an age band, not a child's identity. If you think we hold personal data about a child, email support@theopenapps.com and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, or to object to how we use it. Email support@theopenapps.com and we will answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Cookies and storage in your browser

Tucktale sets no cookies.

Security

Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Listening links and feeds use long random codes that can't be guessed. The card in ChatGPT uses a key that opens only its own series and expires after 12 hours.

Where data is processed

We are based in the United States. Our servers are run by Hetzner Online GmbH. OpenAI may process data in the United States and other countries, under its own privacy and security commitments. Cloudflare, Inc. runs DNS for our domain name; our traffic does not pass through Cloudflare.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data we already hold, we will say so on this page before it takes effect.
